Keratoconus

At Advanced Eye Care Center, we offer advanced keratoconus diagnosis and treatment to help protect and stabilize your vision. Early treatment is key to preventing further vision loss and preserving long-term eye health.

What is Keratoconus

How it works

Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the cornea thins and gradually bulges into a cone shape, causing blurred and distorted vision. This irregular corneal shape prevents light from focusing properly on the retina, leading to increased sensitivity to glare and worsening nearsightedness. At Advanced Eye Care Center, we provide advanced keratoconus testing and treatment options to help preserve and stabilize your vision.

Keratoconus Symptoms

Common Symptoms

  • Blurred or distored vision
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Frequent prescription change
  • Difficulty driving at night

Treatment Options

Keratoconus has no cure, but advanced treatments can slow progression and protect long term vision. At Advanced Eye Care Center, we personalize keratoconus treatment based on the stage of the condition and your visual needs. Early diagnosis and routine monitoring are key to preserving corneal health and preventing further vision loss.

Contact Lenses for Keratoconus

In the early stages of keratoconus, glasses or soft contact lenses may provide adequate vision correction. As the cornea becomes more irregular, specialty contact lenses including rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses and other custom-designed options can help create a smoother optical surface and significantly improve visual clarity. At Advanced Eye Care Center, we provide customized keratoconus contact lens fittings and ongoing monitoring to track progression and protect your long-term eye health.

Corneal Cross Linking for Keratoconus

Corneal cross linking is an advanced treatment designed to slow or stop the progression of keratoconus by strengthening the corneal collagen fibers. The procedure uses riboflavin eye drops combined with controlled ultraviolet light exposure to increase corneal stability and improve structural integrity. At Advanced Eye Care Center, corneal cross linking is an effective option for preserving vision, although some patients may still benefit from specialty contact lenses to achieve their best possible visual clarity.

Corneal Cross Linking with EVO ICL

For patients with keratoconus who are seeking long term vision correction, EVO ICL may be an option after the cornea has been stabilized with corneal cross linking. EVO ICL is an implantable collamer lens procedure that corrects nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism, by placing a lens inside the eye without removing corneal tissue. At Advanced Eye Care Center, we carefully evaluate candidacy after cross linking to determine whether EVO ICL can safely enhance visual clarity once the cornea is stable.
